“Your horse’s health is our business.”
That is our motto at Florida Equine Veterinary Services, and
we take it seriously. FEVS veterinarians and technicians
continually strive to stay on top of the latest developments
in equine treatment protocols and techniques. Our
veterinarians are members of the American Association of
Equine Practitioners and the Florida Association of Equine
Practitioners. We chair committees for horse owner
education and engage in research programs for next
generation vaccines and sports medicine therapies. We have
a network of the brightest and most respected individuals in
the equine veterinary field, so if we do not have the
answer, we will get it.

At FEVS, our goal is to provide a superior level of care and
service for your equine.
CHIROPRACTIC
Another combination of eastern and
western medicine is also offered by FEVS which is
chiropractic medicine. Adjustments of the horses vertebrae
and pelvis are done with minimal amount of exertion. The
joints and facets of the boney junction are able to be
manipulated due to the angle they lie in as well as the
minimal structures around them.
MESOTHERAPY
For horses with chronic neck and
back pain, FEVS uses mesotherapy. A series of very small
needles penetrate the inter-dermal layer of skin and
depending on the horse’s condition, inject substances to
stimulate the mesoderm.
DIGITAL RADIOGRAPHY
For a fast, definitive diagnosis of
skeletal issues, FEVS uses digital radiography (DR) by Eklin,
the gold standard of the DR industry. In as little as
three seconds, we are able to clinically review an x-ray
image on a high resolution monitor. The images can be
manipulated for the best possible diagnosis, and allow for
immediate treatment or quick surgical/podiatry consults.
This is extremely valuable to horse owners and trainers
involved with horse shows, competitions and pre-purchase
exams.
IRAP or AUTOLOGOUS CONDITIONED SERUM
For the equine athlete suffering from joint
degeneration and/or inflammation that conventional
treatments do not help, FEVS offers Interleukin-1 Receptor
Antagonist Protein (IRAP) therapy. IRAP therapy uses
the patient’s own blood to produce a serum concentrated with
regenerative and anti-inflammatory proteins. This
serum is completely autologous and contains no drugs, so the
possibility of adverse allergic or anaphylactic side effects
is drastically reduced.
SHOCKWAVE THERAPY
FEVS offers Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy
(ESWT) therapy for horses suffering from chronic pain and
lameness. This alternative non-invasive therapy is
generally used for degenerative or acute problems in soft
tissue and bones. Most patients require approximately
three therapy sessions. FEVS uses the Versatron from
Sanuwave, which uses an electro-hydraulic design for greater
depth of penetration and focused area that minimizes
surrounding tissue damage.
DIGITAL ULTRASONOGRAPHY
Ultrasound is one of the primary tools for
evaluation of soft tissue trauma. FEVS veterinarians
use Digital Ultrasonography to carefully evaluate Muscles,
tendons and ligaments, relative to their corresponding boney
structures. We locate and measure inflammation and
fluid accumulation in order to prescribe a treatment
protocol to maximize the patient’s healing response.
Our veterinarians having attended recent continuing
education seminars in order to offer accurate diagnosis for
your horse.
COOLED SEMEN & ARTIFICIAL INSEMINATION
FEVS veterinarians perform cooled semen and
artificial insemination on a regular basis. Clients
may have these procedures done at their location, or may
haul their horses to our clinic.
FROZEN SEMEN & EMBRYO TRANSFER
In addition to cooled semen and artificial
insemination, FEVS veterinarians also perform frozen semen
insemination and embryo transfer. These procedures
involve specialized equipment and a more intense evaluation
of the mare’s cycle, so horses must be hauled to our clinic.
ULCERS/STOMACH ISSUES
Gastric ulcers are a source of
chronic colic even on the most well managed farm.
Recent discovery of the gastric ulcers has been made
possible by 3 meter scopes that give a complete view of the
horses’ stomach. FEVS has the ablility to evaluate the
upper gastrointestinal tract with an
Olympus
3meter video gastroscope. This procedure is relatively
simple and quick but requires an overnight stay at our
clinic for proper fasting. It is a fairly
noninvasive procedure requiring the scope to pass through
the nose into the esophagus and finally into the stomach.
Mild sedation is all that is needed. You may view the
procedure on our 20” color monitor, and get color photos
from the exam.
STEM CELL/IRAP
For the equine athlete suffering from joint degeneration,
inflammation, or tendon/ligament injuries that conventional
treatments do not help, FEVS offers Interleukin – 1 Receptor
Antagonist Protein (IRAP) therapy as well as stem cell
injection treatments. IRAP therapy uses
the patient’s own blood to produce a serum concentrated with
regenerative and anti-inflammatory proteins.
This serum is completely autologous and contains no
drugs. Stem cell treatments are acquired
from the patient’s own fat stores, processed, and
re-injected into the soft tissue lesion in need of
treatment. The possibility of adverse
allergic or anaphylactic side effects is drastically reduced
with both treatments. Depending on the
lesion or injury either one or both therapies could be used.
